Main Changes from D10

  • Adding BOOK module
    • Is being removed from Drupal 11 Core
    • Currently in use by 35+ projects 
    • Contrib-equivalent will be added to the distribution
  • Removing the PANELS module
    • Very minimally maintained
    • Affects 115 websites & Panels IPE affects 111 websites
    • Since Drupal 8, websites have been encouraged to use Layout Builder instead
  • Removing PAGE MANAGER module
    • Technically this module was removed from distribution layer but it still exists on the platform
    • And is only being used by 2 saas+ websites
    • It went hand in hand with the panels module
    • It is very minimally maintained and as technical debt has had it’s last chance – strike 3 and it’s out

How to Prepare?

The first step to D11 is to ensure that the following technical debt has been removed from your website:

  • Adminimal (1)
  • Panelizer (78)
  • Redirect 404 (86)
  • G8 Calendar Item (63)
  • G8 Foundations (50)
  • G8 Layouts (71)
  • G8 Modifiers (32)
  • UI Starter Kit (20)

Process

The website upgrades phase will follow that same process as the past:

  1. [We] will Create D11 feature branch
  2. [You] will have 2 weeks to Identify and fix any issues, then once you let me know
  3.  [We] Merge D11 website to become LIVE 

The whole process will be communicated and tracked via a service desk ticket
