Joseph is part of one of our less visible teams who work behind the scenes to keep GovCMS stable and secure. We feel lucky to have such an experienced senior developer and ICT architect in the team. Joseph has over 16 years’ experience in Drupal open source projects and has been with GovCMS for four years.

‘I’m a fan of Drupal open source and how the community shares their knowledge. The biggest drawcard for me is the big community of developers and the contributions they make available for everyone to use. This is a valuable feature for government because it’s important that we can provide the best digital service to Australian citizens. Drupal makes the codes available for everything we need to provide a high quality service regardless of the size of the agency and the resources it has available.’

Joseph has also given back over 20 significant contributions to the Drupal community including a module to help facilitate the publishing of annual reports.

‘Drupal.org has contacted me on serval occasions to thank me for my contributions. I get a bit of a kick out of fixing bugs and adding to the security of Drupal. It’s an opportunity to be innovative and I enjoy the challenge.’

Joseph’s priority is working on the GovCMS distribution for Drupal 9 with the help of the rest of the team here in Finance and the Drupal community.

‘This is a big job, we have to ensure all the modules on GovCMS are compatible. At a later stage I’ll need some input from our community to test modules and share their thoughts. I’m going to have to manage the three GovCMS distributions for Drupal 7, 8 and 9 in the short term.’

In keeping with the IT developer stereotype, outside of work Joseph is an enthusiastic gamer! He plays on most consoles and especially loves retro games. He also likes to take his 12 year old son and wife back to mainland China to visit his family every couple of years.

‘I moved to Australia in 2003 to study IT Engineering at Wollongong University. As much as I enjoy my life here it’s great to go back home for my mum’s home cooking.’
