Meet the team – introducing Alistair

Alistair joined GovCMS last month to replace Toby as our Technical Product Owner. He used to be a GovCMS customer and has more than 20 years of IT experience.
‘The World Wide Web and I grew up together. I got my first home computer in 1995. I started building websites in 1998 when I was in high school. I was excited to watch the rapid advancement of interactive multimedia. Just as exciting was the increasing availability of technology on the web. I was hooked,’ said Alistair.
Alistair has been working in the government space since 2007. He has built and maintained more than a dozen government websites.
‘Recently, my team and I had redeveloped the Finance.gov.au website. Moving it from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 required a full rebuild.
In my previous role, I enjoyed finding innovative solutions to complex technical issues. I’m always keen to explore ways to improve a process, simplify steps, reduce overheads or make better use of products and systems.
Alistair has been a GovCMS customer since 2016, and now as part of the team, he brings that customer experience along with his technical skills.
‘I’ve wanted to see the platform succeed as I’m sure others do. I’m keen to help drive the future of GovCMS and deliver improvements. A win for me would be improving the customer’s experience in all steps of the GovCMS journey. If that in turn drives better experiences for users engaging with those websites, even better! These things are circular in nature. If we achieve in one space, we should get flow on benefits and so the cycle continues.’
Alistair has spent the last few years travelling to Austin, Texas in his personal time for the South by Southwest conference and festivals which aligns to his professional career and enjoyment of music.
‘At the 2019 edition, I was lucky enough to see the world premiere of Jordan Peele’s movie, Us. It involved a three hour line up to get a ticket.’
‘I was planning on going to Web Summit in November in Portugal in my spare time. That’s probably a wait and see this year. I’ve recently attended Web Summit’s sister conference, Collision from Home. The conference hours weren’t conducive to normal waking hours in Australia, it was worth the adjusted sleep patterns to listen to some of the great ideas.
Now Alistair is part of our team, expect to see more photos of fluffy critters make their way into GovCMS PowerPoint presentations. Yep, we’ve got another cat lover in the team. Alistair has two fur babies. Combined with Nathan’s famous cats we’re all in for a cuteness overload.
