Google Analytics – Have you switched to GA4 yet?
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the next generation of website analytics from Google. GA4 is replacing the existing version of Google Analytics, Universal Analytics, from 1 July 2023. Universal Analytics will stop collecting session-based data for your website from 1 July. If you are yet to add GA4 to your GovCMS website, we recommend doing this sooner rather than later.
GovCMS will be reaching out to website owners who are yet to make this change. GovCMS pricing plans are based on data collected by Google Analytics. This means that you will need to add GA4 to your GovCMS websites to ensure you are not overcharged because of this change.
For our customers making the switch that have a Google subscription with the Observatory Team at the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA), you will need to ensure DTA adds GA4 to your 360 account.

You need to configure your GA4 analytics tracking ID sooner rather than later. Adding GA4 alongside your current Universal Analytics code will ensure you can validate and review the views coming through. The GA4 reports are also very different to the reports you will be used to seeing. If you setup GA4 now, you can learn how to setup and run GA4 reports and compare the data to your existing reports.

You can add GA4 to your website by following Google’s instructions on setting up GA4 or find GovCMS specific GA4 information in our Knowledge Base or by joining us at the GovCMS Birthday meetup for our GA4 live Q&A.
