Digital Profession Rules as Code Presentation
Our GovCMS Digital Experience Platform (DXP) team gave a Rules as Code (RaC) presentation in August to the APSC Digital and Data Professions Network. Read on to learn about how it went.
GovCMS’ Digital Experience Platform (DXP) team has been busy spreading the word on RaC across the APS. On 29 August, the team gave a lively one-hour presentation to the APSC Digital and Data Professions network, showing how Rules as Code can benefit government operations at all levels—Local, State, and Federal.
The team showcased the whole process, from scoping and writing rule statements to mapping, OpenFisca coding, and creating user interfaces and finished with a live demo of two exciting proof-of-concept sites. The Ministerial and Parliamentary Services (MAPS) sandpit highlighted the technology's calculation abilities, while the DTA Investment Oversight Framework sandpit demonstrated how it can ensure compliance.
Over 700 network members joined the presentation with insightful and thought-provoking engagement following. Attendee feedback noted the presentation's clarity and relevance of Rules as Code to current projects, observing its potential to significantly improve workflow and productivity. Attendees also appreciated the mapping and examples provided, recognising the value of utilising Python to translate legislation into machinable code for faster delivery of services.
The discussion was further enriched by contributions from participants involved in the sandpits. If you’d like to check out the presentation, you can watch it here: Rules as Code Department of Finance (youtube.com).
